AirPods are very convenient accessories to your Apple device. You can use them to listen to music, take phone calls, and use Siri. AirPods must be set up properly with your iOS or MacOS device before you can use them. They work like Bluetooth devices in Android phones.
Several Apple users have reported that they can’t hear any sounds when they are using their AirPods. They AirPods have specifically stopped playing any sound from the iOS device without any warning. If you are experiencing the same issue, then you are not alone.
This article aims to give you some fixes when your AirPods do not produce any sound even if it is connected to your device.
Fix AirPods that do not have Sounds
Clean your AirPods Properly
You have to make sure that you have clean AirPods. When you frequently use them, they tend to pick up a lot of dirt and dust from the environment. You have to clean them from time to time. Apple can give you some tips on how to clean your AirPods in order to prevent any damage.
Update Your Apple Device
In order to make sure that your iOS device is updated, you can go to the following: Settings > General > Software Update. There is generally an indication when your iPhone needs an update. You can download the updates manually by connecting to Wi-Fi or turning on your cellular data. Wait for the updates to be installed then turn off your device. Wait for a few minutes and turn it back on again. Now, connect your AirPods and see if there is music coming off from them.
Check your Volume
There is a setting on your iPhone that can limit the maximum level of volume that you can hear. Even if your device is already on full volume, you might not be able to hear any sounds if your phone has a low volume limit. To change this setting, you can go to the iPhone’s “Settings”. Next, scroll down and select the “Music” option. Tap on the “Volume Limit” option. Make sure that the limit is set to the maximum.
Connect your AirPods Properly
Go to your device’s home screen. Hold the case with the AirPods next to your iPhone. If you see a setup animation, you can simply tap connect. Press “Done” after the AirPods is connected.
Check Your AirPods if they are Fully Charged
Check the level of the battery. If you see that it is low, charge your AirPods as soon as possible. You just simply have to place them in the case and let them charge for a few hours.
Turn on Bluetooth
Go to your settings and tap the Bluetooth option. Toggle the Bluetooth on.
Reset your AirPods
Place the AirPods in their case and gently close the lids. After a few seconds, try to open the lids. Press the setup for a few seconds and wait for the light to turn white.
Disconnect and Reconnect your AirPods
Go to the Settings then choose Bluetooth. Tap on the Forget this Device to unpair them. Pair them again by turning on your Bluetooth.
Turn Off and Turn on Your Device
In order to do this, you can go to your iPhone’s Settings. Tap General then Shut Down. Restart your iPhone after a few seconds
Disable Automatic Detection
Go to the Settings then choose Bluetooth. Tap the AirPods menu then toggle off the option that shows “Automatic Ear Detection.”
If all else fails, you can always contact Apple Support. You can also read other forums or get a representative through live chat.
Ensures that your AirPods and iDevice are Connected
Most iPhone users pair their devices with Bluetooth headphones and external speakers etc. with time, these connections become a problem, especially when you want to establish a connection with your AirPods. If your AirPods have an audio issue, disconnect your iPhone from any external speaker or headphone. Navigate to your iPhone’s setting and select the Bluetooth menu. From this menu, ensure that your AirPads and iPhone are connected.
Reset Network Settings
Your device might be experiencing some connectivity issues if the options above do not present a viable solution. One of the best things that you can do is reset the network settings. Wiping network settings allows the call settings, WI-FI networks, and Bluetooth devices to be reset. Along with the network settings, the network problems will also be wiped. This then allows you to hear your AirPods.
If you want to reset the network settings, follow these steps
- Navigate to the Settings applications.
- In settings, tap on the option labeled general.
- Scroll down to the bottom and tap on the button labeled reset.
After resetting, set your Bluetooth connection between iOS devices and the AirPad after your device reboots. All the connection problems should then be eliminated.
Why iPhone is Not Connecting to a Car Stereo While Using Bluetooth?
Good Solutions Thanks
One of my ear buds is not working but then it is but quiet then it’s only working from the wrong speakers bit only I have done all the things except the apple support only got these 5 mothers ago new this was helpful though I’m not the only one not the exact same
Works Great for me
Thanks a lot I went to apple and they couldn’t even fix it thanks works great
This article is great. A genius could come up with these fixes. And obviously they worked…
There still isn’t any sound coming out of them. I tried everything here
I followed all of the steps and my problem still persists. I have sound on android devices (videos, notifications, calls, etc.) but on my iPad I cannot hear sound, just the beep that lets me know it is connected. I can advance tracks, and start and stop videos, but all is silent. I really don’t want to have to talk to Apple Customer Service…last time it was hours and still the problem had to be resolved over multiple days with multiple service employees. 🙁
Have you fixed your problem?
Because mine is doing the same thing as yours were
Mine only connects to my iPad & play music. I have the pros and my software on my iPhone is up to date
I also got the same problem. The AirPods connect and work totally fine with my laptop (windows). When I connect with my iPhone X, the sound only comes from the phone, not the AirPods. I’ve already tried all from restarting the AirPods, my phone, forget the device, reconnect it back again, the ear detection feature, all of it doesn’t work.
Okay I recently got an HP laptop the one with intel Core i3 10th gen HP pavilion x360. The airpods say connected but they don’t play anything. Help.
Airpods are for morons.
If you are also using an Apple Watch- turn off the Bluetooth on the watch BEFORE connecting the AirPods and playing audio, then once audio is playing through the AirPods you can turn back on the Bluetooth on the watch. Works every time first time.
Thank you! I tried everything and this finally worked! A tad annoying though, I must say.
Thank you. Your comment fixed all my stuff. Thank you so so much.
Thank you Andy! I disconnected my watch and the AirPods worked.
This is alL crap, Apple has them low so they won’t get sued I spent a fortune and they suck. The left one doesn’t work at all unless I turn it sideways in my ear THEY SUCK
Works Great for me thank you.
