Two-factor authentication can make your account or phone secure. This is an extra layer of security that Apple has designed by accessing only the devices that you trust. For example, if you sign in for the first time to your Apple ID on your iPhone, a code will be sent to your iPhone or preferred device for security. On the second time that you will log in to your Apple ID on the same device, you won’t be asked to enter a verification code on that device again.
However, it can be annoying. If you know you are the only one using your phone or your accounts, then it is understandable that you’d want to turn off this authentication especially when it comes to your Apple account. After getting rid of the two-factor authentication, you can easily access your Apple ID without any hassles.
The main purpose of this article is to answer questions about the two-factor authentication. There are a lot of people who wanted to know if it’s possible to turn it off. And if it can be disabled, what are the steps involved?
Disable your Two-Factor Authentication
The short answer is: maybe. However, there is a high chance that the two-factor authentication is part of accessing your Apple account. In some devices, there is actually an option where you can wait for two weeks. You will have the option to turn off the authentication by logging in into the website of apple.com. If an option shows, then here are the steps on how you can turn it off.
1. Go to www.appleid.apple.com
2. In order to log in, enter your Apple ID and the correct password.
3. Go to the Security option.
4. Click the word “Edit”.
5. Click the option to “Turn off two-factor authentication.” You will be asked: If you turn off the two-factor authentication, the account will only be safe through your security questions and password. Just click Continue to agree. There are some cases where you will not be able to see this option. This means that you won’t be able to turn off your two-factor authentication.
An authentication that is enabled for 2 weeks or longer can’t be disabled. There’s a reason why Apple does not allow it. This is basically part of the security question for the safety of your account.
Why there’s No Option to Turn Off the Two-Factor Authentication
There’s no doubt that security is the main concern of the Apple Company when the Two-Factor Authentication was first introduced. This is because even if someone knows your password, they won’t be able to login to your account if they can’t prove their identity. This extra level of security can be found in many MacOS and iOS feature. This includes your iCloud Messages, iCloud Keychain and a lot more.
The feature was first introduced in the year 2015. This was also the year when the iOS 9 and the iOS 1- were first introduced. The iOS 10.11 El Capitan also includes this feature.
When you are on your browser, you have the option to click on a trusted browser so you won’t be asked for an authentication code every time you log in. Note that the codes will only appear once you delete your browser history, change your devices, erase the information of your phone completely, or you completely sign out from a device.
Security can be an important factor especially when it comes to your online accounts. Turning off the two-factor authentication will largely depend on the owner’s preference. You can also contact Apple Support for more help regarding this subject.
brian, it’s kinda sad, but looks like nobody but me actually read your post. there is no such thing as “applied.apple.com” because it’s a mistype (which happens to us all). If anybody tried this, they’re either lazy and didn’t tell you, or your efforts were wasted. BTW, your efforts are wasted for me on my PC, because when I go to appleid/apple.com and login succesfully, there is no account settings/security tab to go to. So after all this, I STILL can’t turn off 2-factor; I don’t need it, because no one but me can touch this phone. This is one of those times I have this certain ugly feeling toward Apple.
More likely it was autocorrect that got you!
Under “Turing off two way authentication”, You state: go to applied.apple.com. It says “site can’t be reached” . Any other options?
Hi Jeff,
Thanks a lot for your comment, Yes it was a mistake with the url thanks for pointing it out i really appreciate that. i have now updated the article thanks to you
All the best
Brian
Doesnt work on latest ios. You can’t disable it cos Apple are a bunch of cunts
well then..
I understand the option to turn off 2 factor authentication is limited for a certain amount of time after it has been turned on. Overall I am in favour of two factor authentication being enabled, but there must be a concern about what happens if your fido key/hardware token etc is lost.
How does one turn off two factor authentication when the icloud userid does not show a “Security” option. This is bad when someone only has 1 device and no way to implement two factor. No smart phone and only landline, which cannot handle it. Total ignorance on the part of developers to assume everyone has multiple devices that connect to the internet, especially for older people who have been given an ipad to communicate with grandchildren via Facetime.
